In his teens, Capablanca started a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering but quickly left school to focus on chess. Capablanca became the Cuban national champion at the age of 12 by beating Juan Corzo. The Cuban genius started playing chess at the age of four by just observing his father playing with pals. José Raúl Capablanca y Graupera was born in 1888 in Havana, Cuba. Lasker’s deep understanding of psychology over the chessboard and strong strategical and tactical vision made him unbeatable until the first so-called chess genius appeared. He realized that playing around the rival’s weaknesses could be far more critical than being able to make the best moves. Lasker was the first chess player of his time to understand that psychology is an integral element in chess. These included Steinitz (rematch), Marshal, Tarrasch, Janowski, and Schelchter. Unlike most of the chess legends on this post, Lasker obtained a doctorate in psychology and mathematics while being a professional chess player. By his early twenties, Lasker was already a dominant chess player. He learned how to play chess in his early teens. However, he often underestimated such laws and was vulnerable to other factors of the game, such as psychology. Thus, he was better at understanding what was happening on the board to be able to find better moves than his opponents. He was able to study the game of chess meticulously to extract the most critical factors in each position. The development of the general chess principles of strategy is attributed to Steinitz. He was also able to defend his title in the next three World Chess Championships against other famous chess players of his time like Mikhail Chigorin and Isidor Gunsberg.
